The Home and Garden Show

Last weekend was the Home and Garden Show at Kingston Plaza. I would like to thank Elite Events for allowing me booth space for my Foundation. I always look forward to these events so I can let people know about the assistance we provide cancer patients and keeping my Angel Shannon’s memory alive.

One of the things I enjoy is meeting the vendors who are set up next to you. On one side was the Humanitarian Center. They do tremendous work caring for anyone in need. The ladies running the booth were very friendly and kind. On the other side was Next Level Health Center. It’s a company that handles health situations with nutrition, exercise and natural therapy. I enjoyed talking with them and hearing their philosophy on medical treatment. It was particularly interesting because my Angel Shannon was very passionate about these things.

My best experience at this event happened on Friday evening. A lady walked up and asked about my Foundation. I explained why I started it, and its purpose. She began to tell me how she lost both her Mother and Grandmother to breast cancer. Then she said how much she missed her Mom and how close they were. I told her I was sorry for her loss and asked her how long it had been since her Mother had passed away. She told me it had been six years, but she still misses her and thinks about her every day. “The other day, I found myself trying to call her on the phone” she said as the tears started to well up in her eyes. “I know it shouldn’t bother me this much after so long, but there are days I just can’t help it” she said wiping away some tears. I felt so bad for what she was going through. I wanted to say something to comfort her. “I feel so sorry for what you are going through. All I can say is nothing you are feeling about your Mom is the wrong feeling. I can tell you have very special memories of her and the strength of that bond is why you still think of her that much” I told her. She got little smile on her face, and I just knew she was thinking about a special memory of her Mom, just as I was thinking of how special my Angel Shannon is. About that time, her kids came up and wanted to go to the jump house. “It was so nice to talk to you. Thank you so much for listening” she said. “Thank you for letting me know about your Mom. I will keep you and your family in my prayers” I responded.

These times are worth more than money can buy. I am grateful for the connections I make at these events, and how they help me work toward being a better person. I know the inspiration for my response to her was from my Angel Shannon. I will always LOVE AND MISS YOU sweetheart.

Next week: People of the Hot Pools

Hint: Think “People of Walmart” in a bathing suit.
